Pharmacological properties

Prednisolone is a glucocorticoid drug, dehydrated analogue of hydrocortisone. It has anti-inflammatory, antiallergic and immunosuppressive effect.

 

Indications for use

Urgent conditions, requiring a rapid increase in concentration of glucocorticoids in organism:
- depressed cases (burn, trauma, surgery, and toxic) - in case of ineffectiveness of vasoconstrictors, plasma-substituting drugs and other symptomatic therapy;
- allergic reactions (acute severe forms), blood transfusion shock, anaphylactic shock, anaphylactoid reaction;
- brain edema (including brain tumors in the background or in connection with surgery, radiotherapy, or head injury);
- bronchial asthma (severe), status asthmaticus;
- systemic connective tissue diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis);
- acute adrenal insufficiency;
- thyrotoxic crisis;
- acute hepatitis, hepatic coma;
- decrease of inflammation and preventing scarring restrictions (in case of poisoning with caute-rizing liquids);
- in pediatrics all kinds of anaphylaxis, allergy (laryngitis, laryngotracheobronchitis), severe asthma, status asthmaticus, shock.
