Pharmacological properties

Cephtriaxone - semi-synthetic antibiotic of group of beta-lactams, cephalosporins of III generation, it has bactericidal effect. The mechanism of action is associated with inhibition of activity of enzyme transpeptidase. The drug has a broad spectrum of action: it is active against aerobic gram-positive microorganisms: facultative anaerobes (including penicillinase-forming strains); b-hemolytic streptococci of group A, streptococci of group B; non-enterococcal streptococci of group D; gram-negative organisms, Klebsiella species; microaerophiles; aerobic bacteria (including penicillin-forming strain); obligate anaerobes, Bacteroides species. The drug is prescribed in case of resistance of microorganisms to other cephalosporin, aminoglycosides, penicillins, etc.

 

Indications for use

The drug is prescribed for treatment of infectious diseases caused by susceptible to it strains of microorganisms. The drug is used for treatment of infectious diseases of low respiratory tract (pneumonia, bronchitis, pulmonary abscess, and pleural empyema), ENT (ear, nose, throat) infections, infections of kidneys and urinary organs (pyelitis, cystitis, acute and chronic pyelonephritis, prostatitis, epididymitis), infections of skin and soft tissues, including bacterial streptococcal impetigo, meningitis, infections of bones and joints, peritonitis, inflammation of the gall bladder, gastrointestinal infections, uncomplicated gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted infections (chancroid and syphilis), Lyme disease (spirochetosis), typhoid fever, salmonellosis, carriage of salmonelles.
The drug is also used to prevent infections that occur after surgery.

 

Pharmaceutical form

Powder for solution for injection of 0.5 and 1.0 g in vials or together with the solvent ("Lido-caine hydrochloride, 1% solution for injection” or “Water for injection” in ampoules of 5 ml or 10 ml).
